Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Or at least that's what I feel like.

You probably have an idea what this post is about if you have Netflix. So if you're not into my rant about my health-please hit the 'X' at the top of your screen. :)

My hubby and I have been watching a few documentaries, as well as doing some of our own research reading up on the likes of Dr. Mercola, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr.Campbell, and Dr. McDougall. We've been soaking in a lot about food in general. Some things a little bogus, a lot of things sticking in our heads. One thing that rings true is that we feel like crap....all. the. time.

Now many would say I feel bad because I'm in the last few week of pregnancy-and I totally get that...but there's so much more. I've been on this battle with poor help for a lot of years. It just seems to get worse. I feel like I can't stay on any sort of bandwagon and I just fail. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get healthy.

This is way beyond just weight loss. I feel like I'm 80. I don't feel like I'm in my late 20's. I should have the energy to play with my kids without panting like a dog. Am I right?

Well, after a huge discussion with my parents and hubby, we've ALL decided to change how we eat. This is a serious breakthrough!

My parents watched the documentary, "Hungry for Change" with us and it sparked an interest into juicing. Not really a juice fast, but incorporating it with our journey to good health. My hubby and I then watched "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead". Now we've watched Food Inc. as well as Forks over Knives a few years ago. All 4 documentaries are absolutely amazing and have sparked a desire to quit being apart of the American "health" system and get on track.

My husband is eating raw veg. Even my 4 year old ate raw bell peppers yesterday. It's just crazy! We've ordered our juicer (my parents have ordered one too!) and we've been discussing our game plan. We have to tackle this head on. We can't live like this any longer. I even ordered a few cookbooks to help inspire me to cook more healthy. I've been looking into CSA's in our area, and even plan on making my way to the farmer's market this weekend. We want to rid our home of processed food ASAP! Obviously we're not gonna toss everything away, but we are gonna start replacing things little by little.

So please, if you have a moment-pray for us. We NEED this. We need to live the life the Lord has given us with joy and energy to face life head on. This isn't possible if we can't get our health under control.

If you have any tips, we'd love to hear them! Any juicing recipes you enjoy?

  1. Hi! Can I please refer you to an amazing book called "Nourished Traditions"? I've been on a journey for the past 10 years and what I've learned is that responsibly grown meat is a MUST for your health, so are saturated fat and cholesterol. I know, it goes against everything we are told. I use pastured lard, coconut oil and grassfed butter to cook with. We eat whole foods- no grains as I can't tolerate them. The paleo template got me started on this journey which lead me to so many amazing discoveries. Here are a few people I recommend checking out: Chris Kresser, Diane Sanflippo and the Weston A. Price foundation. Changing my diet (read- how I eat, not how I loose weight) has changed my life in an amazing way. I'd also like to mention that I am a Christ follower. I don't believe all the paleolithic science, but the biology of our bodies is what I agree with. I believe that the Lord gave us good clean food to raise our selves. We can't all do this, but you can make choices; what to put on your plate and what you're willing to sacrifice for a healthier lifestyle if money is a concern. We are currently living off of one salary and making it work. We are never sick, feel good and can physically do everything our 3 year old challenges us to do. We are in our 30th year of life and I can say truthfully that finding my own answers had afforded me to feel the best I have ever felt in my life. I am grain free, bean free, soy free, corn free and dairy free aside from a little butter. I will pray for you as I know first hand what a serious issue this is. It has been a passion of mine for the past 3 years. We are trying to buy a small farm to raise out own eggs and veggies. It's all part of God's providence. He is so good. :o) Best of luck to you- sorry for the length, but I felt compelled to share. I am coming from a place of love. <3

  2. My husband juiced for about 10 days to lose an initial 10-15 lbs. He's kept it off by eating well. We are also looking into a more vegetarian lifestyle. He has watched some of the videos yhou mentioned, too. My struggle is not the lack of meat, but eating better, in general. So, kudos to you for trying (and being successful) while you are pregnant! That's awesome!
