Oil Cleansing Method

Vissa Studios

I am pretty sure that OCM is not new news for most. If not let me tell you a bit about it.

OCM is a rad way to clean your face it sounds completely counter productive, but it ain't. In chemistry they say, "like dissolves like". In this case, that would be oil, dissolves oil. Don't believe me do ya?

That's okay. I completely understand. I didn't believe it either, till I tried it. Now, I am in love. I don't even need a moisturizer!

The key here is castor oil. Very cheap at most drug stores or the big used-to-be-blue W store. Castor oils draws out dirt and well-oil from your pores. BUT, castor oil can be extremely drying. That's why you need a carrier oil.

A carrier oil would be extra virgin olive oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, or even jojoba oil. There are definitely tons of options, this is just the short list. The carrier oil (depending on how much you use) will keep the castor oil from drying you out, while still moisturizing.

Here is what I do.

I use half castor to half olive oil. I used olive oil because that's what I had, but I plan on ordering some sweet almond order very soon. I pour them into a small 3oz squeeze bottle. When it's time to clean (mostly at night) I place a nickle sized drop on my fingers and begin to massage into my DRY face. Full makeup and everything. I massage this into my face (even removes eye makeup! Yay!) then wet a rag with as-hot-as-I-can-stand-it water. Ring the cloth out and place it over your face until it cools. Think of it as a mini facial, this doesn't take long at all.

Then wipe off. Tada! Your face is not only completely clean, but very smooth and soft. No extra steps needed.

I do this before I go to bed each night. I love love love it and I have actually only been doing it for over a week now.

If you skin is oily, use more castor oil in your ratio. Likewise, if your skin is more dry use less. Play around with different carrier oils to find the one that suits you best!

Also, if you are wondering how it's going with my No 'Poo method of cleaning my hair-it's going. I actually has messed up the recipe and my hair got grossly greasy. BUT, now that I have that taken care of-it looks a LOT better!!!

  1. So funny you just blogged bout this! I totally was researching natural eye makeup remover last night & am going to try some olive oil tonight! Great tips! :)

    1. Hahaha! Awesome! Tell me how it goes. I was pretty shocked at how well it works. I used to use Origins (that crap's expensive!) and it never took all of my eye makeup off. But this stuff works sooo well!

Who doesn't love comments? It is just like Christmas. So go ahead, send me a gift! :)
